For our elder futhark rune set, we hand pick, then purify our copper. After we have cleansed, and cleaned our copper it is melted under the full moon or a new moon in our forge. We remove impurities and sand cast our refined copper into bars. Our sand is infused with selenite and clear quartz powders for clearing and amplifying.

After the bars have air cooled they are collected and brought to the workshop. There they are hand cut and hand hammered to increase the density of the runes which aids in the energy conduction of the copper itself. We add a bit of selenite and clear quartz dust during the hammering process to again, cleanse, charge and amplify each rune. They are hand polished and then the individual runes are inscribed.
We believe our process produces a powerful tool for our practitioners to utilize when divining, casting or reading.

Each rune weighs between 60 and 75 grams, and is handmade and one of a kind from start to finish.

If buying an individual rune please indicate which rune you would like in the notes of your order.

HISTORY AND LORE

The history, legend and lore of copper use by humans is a long and varied, dating back nearly 10,000 years with multiple applications. Copper is, in fact, humanity’s first metal and shows up in Sumerian and Egyptian metallurgy circa 3900 BC. In legend, copper is said to be the metal of the God Hermes, who facilitates mental agility, and quick wit.  Due to the fact that copper is such a wonderful physical conductor of electricity and heat, it is also considered the conductor of non physical energy. According to certain belief systems, copper has the ability to conduct spiritual energy back and forth between individuals, crystals, auras, the mind and the spirit world.

The Elder Futhark, Older Futhark, or Germanic Futhark is the oldest form of therunic alphabets. It was a writing system used by Germanic tribes for Northwest Germanic dialects in the Migration Period. The Elder Futhark runes were in use from around 300 CE to right around 7-800 CE, just before the beginning of the ‘Viking Age’. In the 8th century these runes were refined and replaced by several regional sets of ‘Younger’ runes, due to changes in the spoken language. The vast majority of Elder Futhark inscriptions that we’ve discovered are very short, usually only a word or two; often a name. The Elder Runes were rarely used to convey actual information, on the contrary most of the remaining inscriptions are written in riddles and codes. Without context or a key, many of these artifacts are perplexing at best. Rather than being used to tell a story or share something to the average reader, most of these are thought to have ‘mystical’ connotations. To the early Germanic tribes the very act of writing something down seems to have been a kind of magic in and of itself.
